WORKSHOPS & MENTORING

As a former school teacher who left the profession to pursue a full-time career in wedding photography, it's been one of my professional goals to combine my love of teaching & photography by offering workshops that inspire others.  As a self-taught photographer, I found it difficult to find quality resources explaining how to apply photography theory while shooting & how to edit to achieve the look I wanted in my work.  Last year I spent weeks developing courses that I believe provide total beginners & amateurs with the basic knowledge & skill set to learn the theory & art of photography and accelerate their learning.          I was completely overwhelmed by the interest and success of the workshops.  What I didn't anticipate was how much I would learn & grow as a professional from this experience.  This season I'm excited to be offering BEGINNER & WEDDING workshops again, and also ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING in the off-season when my schedule permits.  See details below regarding our next WEDDING WORKSHOP and please check back regularly for the latest workshop announcements!

"I had the distinct pleasure of participating in two Maigan Cowen Photography workshops; the Beginner Workshop and the Wedding Photography Workshop. Maigan’s presentation of the course material was organized, comprehensive and above all else easily understood. Maigan was able to take the theoretical science of photography and break it down into easily digestible pieces which in my opinion is a considerable task. Her enthusiastic and open manner is motivating and uplifting. You actually feel the passion Maigan has for her art while she provides demonstrations of her photography and during the hands on instructional portions of the program. Whether you are a beginner or already started in this competitive industry, I highly recommend a Maigan Cowen Photography Workshop to anyone who wishes to increase their photographic knowledge and improve their skills. Be prepared to be inspired to take your own photography to a higher level."

BEGINNER WORKSHOP SYNOPSIS

Designed for complete beginners who want to learn how to get the most from their photographs by shooting in manual using natural light. Morning session covers basic technical photography theory with a emphasis on exposure and focus. Afternoon session covers further photography theory including composition, white balance and the power of shooting in RAW vs JPEG. Participants will have the opportunity to see international wedding photographer Maigan Cowen edit several images from start to finish. Following the afternoon session, participants will head outdoors to watch Maigan shoot to develop a better understanding of how to illuminate and pose subjects, and how to coach clients through a session. Participants will then have the opportunity to apply skills in a hands-on-learning environment with constructive feedback and coaching. Workshop notes and numerous resources will be made available to participants. Must have own DSLR or mirrorless camera, at least one lens, a fully charged battery and at least 32 GB of memory. This is a great opportunity for those who have always wanted to learn how to use their camera or have dreamed of running their own photography business someday! Workshop is geared towards portraiture but the basics taught in this course is the foundation for all forms of photography.

Cheers to learning something new!

Love & Light,

Maigan
